TV5 AND AKSYON TV EXPANDS INTERNATIONALLY!

In a little over a year, TV5 has surpassed industry expectations by becoming the fastest rising network in the Philippines. Its fresh and dynamic programs consistently generate high ratings, amassing a growing fanbase across the country and around the world.

The Kapatid Network’s entry into the international scene has been warmly welcomed by nostalgic Filipinos overseas who are now getting a taste of what’s new and popular on Philippine TV with the expansion of TV5 International’s two channels – Kapatid TV5 and Aksyon TV International.

Run by TV5’s affiliate company Pilipinas Global Network Limited (PGN Limited), Kapatid TV5 and Aksyon TV International had a successful debut in the Middle East through Orbit Showtime Network (OSN) in July this year.

ABS-CBN GRABS EXCLUSIVE RIGHTS TO AIR MARIO MAURER IN MANILA!

After much speculation, the Philippines’ leading broadcast network ABS CBN has been awarded the exclusive rights to air the highly anticipated Philippines visit of Thai hearththrob MARIO MAURER.

The deal, which includes all rights to exclusive coverage, TV guestings as well as the formalization of the much talked about 2012 movie project under Star Cinema, was confirmed by Joyce A. Ramirez of PR Asia Worldwide – the agency who won the bid to represent the 22 year old Thai superstar in the Philippines.

This October, Maurer steps in as Penshoppe’s latest endorser, following the brand’s highly successful series of top trending international campaigns headlined by British actor Ed Westwick of the popular series Gossip Girl.

VICE GANDA MARAMI NANG NAKASEX NA NA MALE CELEBRITY!

During the September 20 press conference of the upcoming film Praybeyt Benjamin top-billed by Vice Ganda, the male cast was asked if they had had same-sex sexual encounters. Veteran actor Eddie Garcia was the first to be asked and he admitted that he had sex with the same gender in his teens. “In my younger years before, I was 15 (years old),” he said, which sent the media people in an uproar. The actor-director continued, “Kailangan lahat ng bagay dito sa mundo, kailangan mong subukan.” The actor, known for his sly humor, even joked, “Dati gusto kong gumawa ng ginagawa ng mga Arab sa camel pero hindi ako umabot doon.”

Vice Ganda praised the veteran actor for being candid. “Eddie Garcia na ‘yan, ah umaamin. ‘Yung iba ang kapal ng face nagpakaipokrita. Wala daw [silang experience with same sex], tigilan nga ako!”

ABS-CBN EXEC MADE GMA-7 NO.1!

When martial law was declared in 1972 and ABS-CBN was forced to shut down, Freddie Garcia asked permission from Geny Lopez to work at GMA-7 but promised that he would come back once his old network resumed operations. Garcia, a marketing wiz, made GMA the No. 1 station in no time.

After the Edsa revolution in 1986, the Lopezes reclaimed their broadcast properties and Freddie stuck to his promise. He came back to his old network and before long, the Star Network rose to the top. Aside from the bold programming changes that he made, he also attracted many of the big stars from the other networks to jump ship.

Now, Freddie has retired and can only watch as TV5 does what he used to do. Will MVP do for TV5 what Freddie did for ABS-CBN? Abangan ang susunod na kabanata.

NETWORK WAR HEATS UP!

Dolphy, Aga Muhlach, Lorna Tolentino, Maricel Soriano, Willie Revillame, What do these stars have in common? They have severed their long relationship with ABS-CBN and embarked on a new career path with TV5. Some are calling this exodus a big loss for the Kapamilya network but is it really?

There's no question that Willie's exit from ABS-CBN hurt the network. Their noontime slot is still languishing after "Wowowee" went off the air and Willie's early evening show is a big winner on TV5. However, the rest of the transferees as well as recent recruits like Eddie Garcia, Susan Roces and Nora Aunor are what I consider…well, the politically correct terms for them would be more experienced, seasoned, veterans. Dolphy, Eddie, Susan and Nora are considered not just veterans but icons of the entertainment industry.

TV5 HARVESTS KAPAMILYA STARS WITH WILTING CAREERS!

MANILA, Philippines – Jumping ship seems to be the trend among local Tinseltown’s top celebrities these days.

LT now a Kapatid

Former Kapamilya actress Lorna Tolentino recently inked a one-year deal with TV5, and her first order of business is to film the teleserye “Glamorosa.”

“‘Glamorosa’ muna ang uunahin namin, then another two more mini-seryes, kasi three months lang ‘yung teleserye. And then one movie, ‘yun ang nakasaad sa contract ko,” PEP quoted the actress as saying in an interview during the contract signing on Sept. 27.

Robert Reyes, isang PMA volunteer, "The Filipino reading public is not dumb... If you want to be popular again, be wholesome.

"Gusto n'yo ba gayahin ka namin? Ang trabaho n'yo is to inspire us, not to scandalize us."

PIOLO PASCUAL AT YUL SERVO MAY RELASYON?

FRIENDSHIP WITH PIOLO.

Sabi ni Toni sa The Buzz, "I've learned about this, I think Wednesday [September 21] no'ng na-publish 'yon. I texted Mariel right away.

GMA NETWORK NOW READY FOR FULL DIGITIZATION!

Speaking before business leaders from the Philippines and Asia at the recently concluded 2011 MAP International CEO Conference, GMA Chairman and CEO Atty Felipe Gozon spelled out several ways by which the Kapuso Network is coping with the challenges of digitization: Development of versatile business models; re-purposing of content to accommodate various channels of delivery; and sustained commitment to develop innovative program content.According to Gozon, despite heightened use of the Internet as a channel to access media content, including entertainment and news, television will not be totally sidelined nor will be it relegated to the background. “Yes, the television set will continue to be an effective – if not the most pervasive – medium at least in the Philippines, for many years to come.”

It is a story of a simple young girl from the province named Thelma whose family is beset with challenges when she discovers her uncanny gift of speed. Her talent then opens doors for her – to elevate her family’s situation and change the course of her own life. But to do that she will have to run- against all obstacles, against personal hindrances, against shadows from her past, and against her own self-doubts.

Starring Maja Salvador in the title role, the movie also stars Tetchie Agbayani, John Arcilla, Eliza Pineda, Sue Prado, Elma Muros, Jason Abalos, and under the direction of Paul Soriano.
“Thelma” was included in the list of 7 films in consideration for the selection of the official entry of the Philippines to the 2012 Oscar Awards. The Film Academy of the Philippines has chosen “Ang Babae sa Septic Tank.”

“Thelma” may not be a box-office success but it garnered rave reviews from critics which makes the movie one of the early front-runners for the awards season next year.

"So, di, kinontrata nila uli ako," pagsisimula ni Nora.

"Nauna pa ako, e, sa set, wala silang problema sa akin.

BPCI & ABS-CBN WORKS TO HAVE MISS UNIVERSE 2013 IN PHL!

Panama has declined to stage the 2013 Miss Universe contest, two months after it was announced that the project is almost a done-deal between the government and the pageant organizers.

Reports also said the Binibining Pilipinas Charities, Inc. (BPCI) and ABS-CBN, new home of the BPCI, may soon bid for the staging of the world’s most prestigious beauty pageant in the Philippines.

If the Philippines wins the bid, it would be the third time for the Miss Universe pageant to be held in the country. It was first held in the country in 1974 when Miss Spain Amparo Munoz won the title. This was followed in 1994 when Miss India Sushmita Sen was crowned.

Mariel Rodriguez has left ABS-CBN’s “Happy Yippe Yehey” to move to TV5’s “Wiltime Bigtime” come October.  And we heard hubby Robin Padilla will follow her after his “Guns and Roses” ends on ABS. It’s said Mariel is no longer happy hosting “Happy Yippe” as co-host Toni Gonzaga is giving her the cold shoulder. After they had a tiff last year, things between them were never the same again even after they’ve ostensibly patched up their differences on TV.

Cristy Fermin said it’s not surprising that many Kapamilyas are moving to the Kapatid network. “Grabe kasi ang taas ng pasuweldo sa TV5,” she told us. “Ako, ang suweldong nakukuha ko rito in one month, five months ang katumbas sa kabila. Pati mga utility boys naming galing sa kanila, P1,000 a day ang bayad kaya mas happy talaga sila sa Happy Network.”

Some folks say Mariel will be replacing Shalani Soledad who’s engaged to be married to Cong. Roman Romulo. But Cristy told us Shalani is not leaving the show as her husband-to-be agrees for her to go on with her hosting career even after their wedding.

DESPITE REFORMATTING ABS-CBN'S AFTERNOON AND NOONTIME LINE-UP STILL INFERIOR!

The newly formatted Kapamilya Gold and the improved Happy Yipee Yehey didn't much appealed  the viewers as its numbers remain inferior as compared with rivals from the Kapuso Network. Non-drama programs HYY, I Dare U and Banana Split continued to drive the Afternoon numbers down for ABS-CBN as their figures stayed disappointing wiht 2.3%, 2.8% and 2.9% respectively (notably all three succeeding programs has Melai Cantiveros as the main host). However Korean dramas The Fierce Wife, My Fair Lady and in-house produced Repustasyon  scored better with 3.9%, 4.2% and 3.5%.

EYESHIELD 21 & THE AVENGERS FAILS TO MAKE A MARK INTHE MORNING BATTLE!

ABS-CBN's new morning line-up flagged by Eyeshield21 and the Avengers failed to win the battle in Mega Manila for the trivial morning slots.  Its numbers only raked 1.9% and 1.7% respectively almost at par with its predecessor's performance. However in terms of  audience share, its numbers were a little better than Spongebob and Mr. Bean as it bested counterparts from TV5.

GMA'S HYPE ON THEIR NUTAM LEADERSHIP PUSHED ADVERTISERS TOWARDS ABS-CBN!

Citing actual commercial ad loadings between the two major media giants, it seems that GMA's promotional hype of its leadership in NUTAM has pushed advertisers to look at the National Urban ratings more seriously than Mega Manila. This caused the Kapuso Network with a dilemma specially in their prime time line-up where figures in NUTAM appeared to be disappointing for advertisers. This  constraint is gestured by ABS-CBN's dominance in  total ad minutes (for prime time) where it dwarfed GMA-7 by 11 ad minutes (excluding evening news programs). ABS-CBN managed to contract a total of 60 ad minutes last September 12, 2011 outnumbering GMA-7's 49 ad minutes by 22%. This is despite  GMA's overwhelming advantage in Mega Manila where all its prime time programs are winning their respective time slots. According to monitorings, only the highly budgeted AMAYA and Munting Heredera are winning in the battle of commercial loadings. Commercial loadings reflect  Advertiser confidence and therefore is the basis for the success of a TV program. And by following the trend in the number of ad spots, ABS-CBN seems to be winning the NETWORK WAR.

MISS WORLD BEATS MISS UNIVERSE REPLAY IN NATIONAL URBAN!

Although losing in Mega Manila, GMA's live telecast of Miss World Philippines beats ABS-CBN's Miss Universe replay broadcast in National Urban. This is unusual  specially that GMA's turf is in MM while ABS-CBN's win mostly come from consolidated Urban Ratings. However the airtime period could be the turning factor since Miss Universe replay  started almost an hour later than Miss World in GMA.

Meanwhile MMK continues to be the most watched program in the weekends as it maintains to be the ONLY weekend program to score beyond the 30's mark in  Kantar Media's Total Urban Philippines.

Here are the comparative Household Ratings of ABS-CBN and GMA-7 programs from September 16 to 18, 2011 based on the overnight ratings of Kantar Media/TNS among National households:

GMA-7 FALLS TO NO.3 IN WEEKEND PRIME TIME MEGA MANILA!

The Kapatid Network reigned supreme in the highly-coveted primetime block (6pm to 10pm) last Sunday (September 18) with 8.5% AMR (28.8% audience share) as compared to ABS-CBN’s 8.3% AMR (28.1% audience share) and GMA’s 7.8% AMR (26.5% audience share), data from Nielsen Media Research in Mega Manila showed. Boosted by the formidable program lineup of Comedy King Dolphy’s Pidol’s Wonderland (5:30pm), Aga Muhlach’s Pinoy Explorer (6:30pm), Bossing Vic Sotto’s Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? (7:30pm) and Ryan Agoncillo’s Talentadong Pinoy (8:30pm), TV5’s Sunday primetime block continues to raise the bar in offering shows that highlight moral values, education and Pinoy pride.

REPLAY NG MISS UNIVERSE SA ABS-CBN MAS TINUTUKAN! MISS WORLD INULAN NG BATIKOS!

Citing Kantar Media's TV viewing survey, ABS-CBN's Miss Universe telecast last Tuesday garnered a whooping 31% household ratings in National Urban!  This figure translates to jaw dropping 50% fixed relative audience share beating even the combined viewership of all its competing programs beginning from GMA's Kapuso Movie festival, TV5's Face-to-face and Star World's own live cable telecast of Miss U 2011.

This is by far the highest rating local telecast of Miss Universe in the Philippines for the past decade. Miss Universe 2011 coronation night stood as the highest rating program for the whole day after 100 Days to Heaven.

MANILA, Philippines – A remark made by a US-based Filipina on Twitter following the results of Miss Universe 2011 raised an online firestorm on Tuesday.

User Mary Claire Gonzalez (@MC_Gale) tweeted, “eww miss Philippines looks like a tranny and she has the fugliest name of life!!!!”

Gonzalez also added the hashtag “#notproud” to her tweet.

Gonzalez referred to Miss Universe candidate Shamcey Supsup, who finished 4th place in the Miss Universe 2011 competition held in Sao Paulo, Brazil Monday night (Tuesday morning in Manila).

Following Gonzalez’s tweet, many netizens criticized her for what they felt was a direct insult to the beauty queen.
