Imortal on Thursday kept the lead in primetime and widened lead against rivals Grazilda and Ilumina both in National Uraban and Mega Manila Ratings! The Angel Locsin starer averaged 14% in NCR, 2.6% better than former leader 24 Oras attracting 11.4% people ratings. It also beat Noah in the National Ratings with 29.5%, while Mara Clara settled third with 28.9%. Meanwhile in the daytime National program leaders returned to ABS-CBN with Juana Banana leading the pack, but in Mega Manila Eat Bulaga reamained unshakable with a 10% people rating.

ASAR TALO TO BE AXED SOON? SHOWTIME REMAINS UNBEATABLE!

It seems that the Kapuso Network has finally raised the white flag against Showtime, as Edu's debut program as a kapuso, ASAR TALO, is nearing its final episode. Insiders from the Network relates that failure to beat Showtime in its time slot forced the channel to give up and venture to another program that will finally put showtime to its end. Previously the longest running morning talk show SIS, and the block timer DIZ IZ IT, was also axed due to low ratings. This will be the third axed program within a year that failed to give Showtime a fair fight. The question is, what will happen now to Edu? What show will GMA replace to occupy this time slot? that is for us to know.

GMA-7 TO LAUNCH A FREE-TO-AIR NEWS CHANNEL NEXT YEAR!

Confirmed by GMA-7's new president himself, Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. announced that the country's second largest Broadcasting firm will venture into a free-to-air all news channel next year. This is at the back of the tightened competition in TV viewership brought about by the emerging TV5 and the new and improved Studio 23. Its sister channel Q11 is suspected to be reformatted and become the country's very first free to air news channel. Q11 currently ranks fifth behind Studio 23 in the national ranking. However no Official disclosure has been made confirming this idea. It has incurred  an estimated net loss of about P100M last year as disclosed by  GMA's financial Officer Felipe Yalong.

Former GMA-7  President Atty. Felipe Gozon at last revealed the reason why top Advertisers Colgate-Palmolive Corp.and Procter and Gamble  left the Media giant early this year. In an interview Gozon admitted that higher ad rate adjustments and weaker ratings discouraged main advertisers early this year.

LAWYER Felipe L. Gozon has stepped down as president of GMA Network, Inc. after a tenure of more than a decade, which saw the listed broadcaster surpass rival ABS-CBN Corp. in Mega Manila television ratings.

GMA Network, Inc. announced yesterday Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr. as the firm’s new president. Mr. Duavit, who was executive vice-president, will remain chief operating officer.

Mr. Gozon, meanwhile, remains chairman and chief executive officer. Mr. Gozon took over the helm of GMA Network in October 2000, replacing Menardo R. Jimenez.

Mr. Duavit, who joined the firm’s board in 1999, was named president in a board meeting yesterday, GMA Network said.

ABS-CBN CORPORATION LOANS P10B TO FINANCE EXPANSION AND PAY EXISTING DEBTS!

MANILA, Philippines - Multimedia giant ABS-CBN Corporation signed a 7-year P10 billion syndicated term loan agreement with 8 banks to refinance existing loans and fund expansion plans.

In a statement on Friday, ABS-CBN said that bulk, or P6.6 billion of the entire loan, will be used for debt fefinancing, while P3.4 billion will fund capital expenditures in digital terrestrial TV infrastructure and the continuing expansion requirements for cable TV, among others.

GMA NETWORK Q3 NET INCOME DOWN BY 30%!

Listed broadcast firm GMA Network Inc. on Thursday said that its net income for the January-September period amounted to P2.27 billion, 6 percent more than the same period last year.

But the broadcaster’s bottom line dipped to P583 million in the third quarter of this year, 30 percent lower than the second quarter’s P834 million.

“This drop is a disappointment, but not a big disappointment," GMA Network Chairman and CEO Felipe Gozon said in a media and analysts’ briefing at GMA Network Center, Quezon City.

LOPEZ INC. TO WIPE OUT DEBT THANKS TO ABS-CBN'S STRONGER FINANCIAL PERFORMANCE!

ABS-CBN Mother company, Lopez Inc. (formerly Benpres Holdings Corp.) is in talks with creditors to restructure P1.8 billion of debt in line with its goal to further pare down obligations, according to a top company official.

Lopez Holdings president and chief operating officer Salvador Tirona said negotiations center on a 12.5-year bullet repayment and a fixed rate of four to seven percent per annum.

GMA-7 TO EXCEED P3B PROFIT TARGET THIS YEAR ON HIGHER AD RATES!

GMA Network Inc. expects to exceed its P3-billion net income target this year on higher advertising revenues, a top official said Wednesday.

GMA Network president and chief executive Felipe Gozon told reporters ad spending started to pick up significantly in September and October, after weakening in July and August due to increased rates.

Gozon said the network exceeded its internal ad revenue target for the month of October with still more than a week to go.

The advertising rates of GMA Network rose 5 percent on the average.

Gozon expects the company to register strong financial performance this year and in 2011 with higher advertising rates.

GMA Network registered a net income of P1.68 billion in the first six months of the year, up 24 percent from P1.36 billion year-on-year.

Willing Willie's premiere last Saturday topped the National Rankings among all other Kapatid programs with 13.6%, this is higher than former leader Talentadong Pinoy 10.6% and Laugh or Lose 11.2%. Feisty columnist, TV host and known ally of Willie, Cristy Fermin, reported on “Juicy,” September 27, that, “Sa set pa lamang po ng ‘Wiling Willie,’ P200 million na raw ang budget.”For Revillame’s game show, three studios of TV 5 will be converted into a 600-seater state-of-the-art studio.Reportedly, Revillame stands to earn P 4 billion in his new contract with TV 5. However, this piece of news remains unverified.

Q-11 DENIES BEING OVER TAKEN BY STUDIO 23 IN THE RATINGS GAME!

Quality Television (Q-11), the sister UHF channel of listed GMA Network, Inc., has insisted that it remains the fourth most-watched TV station among households in Metro Manila and nearby provinces (Mega Manila).

In a statement furnished BusinessWorld, Q-11 refuted the earlier claims that it dropped to fifth place in the ratings race, following the recent surge in the ratings of Studio 23, the UHF channel of Lopez-led ABS-CBN Corp.

"Q Channel 11 is still the number four TV station, according to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement’s Mega Manila household data for September 2010 (Sept. 26 to 30 based on overnight ratings). During the said period, Q Channel 11 posted 1.8 rating points as against Studio 23’s 1.7," Q-11 said.

As reported by a kapamilya blogspot, ABS-CBN will do a remake of Snooky Serna's launching movie under Regal Films in 1981, "Bata Pa Si Sabel".

Snooky Serna is Sabel, a young provincial lass who is wooed by two ardent suitors, played by Albert Martinez and Joel Alano. Sabel's elders declare that she is too young to get into the game of romance, but Sabel believes otherwise. So she goes ahead and follows her heart - even if it means experiencing confusiion and pain. This story is directed by the late Joey Gosiengfiao.

Also there's news that AS-CBN is cooking up a new Teen Variety Show which will star the hot young artists of Star Magic such as Sam Concepcion, Arron Villaflor, Enchong Dee, Emmanuelle Vera and PBB Teens. The title of the show is Shout Out!

GMA NETWORK TO INCREASE AD RATE! CAPTURES 43% OF THE ADVERTISING MARKET!

MANILA, Philippines - GMA Network has seen an improvement in its advertising revenues in the third quarter this year and expects to sustain this positive trajectory for the rest of the year on sustained ratings leadership in Mega Manila.

GMA officials said they are confident the network can maintain its growth momentum as more programs are launched. Regular advertising has picked up in September with the return of some advertisers.

Growth is expected to come from the emergence of new smaller advertisers and new campaigns, implementation of another ad rate hike and continued focus on adding value to afternoon time slot.

The network is seeing growth of non-primetime slots, which now account for 30 percent of total advertising revenues.

5 KAPAMILYA SHOWS TO END THIS WEEK!

Media titan ABS-CBN Corp. will end 5 programs this week to give way for new and more enticing programs to match the demand of the competition. Among the shows to air their final episodes are Simply KC, Rosalka, He's Beautiful, IDOL and The Correspondents.

The extended morning talk show Simply KC will bid goodbye today with a lot more tips and learning to offer. The show enjoyed mediocre ratings with relatively good advertising loads moving time slots for at least three times. The episode with Angel Locsin and Gabby Concepcion are among its highest rating episodes.

The country's newest and fastest growing channel, TV5, is creating a big buzz on Philippine Entertainment after it successfully defeated major players iin the ratings game for the weekends. This indicates that Filipino viewers now recognize TV5 as a major channel in the Philippines. 

The success of the Kapatid channel is now compared to world's largest social networking site, Facebook, which in the onset was a petty entity compared to the Titan existing social sites, Friendster and Myspace, but grew to be the most popular networking site in the US.

Encouraged by the success of its initial set of new shows, TV5 will launch its first daily series, My Driver Sweet Lover, next Monday, Oct. 25

ILUMINA BEATS ENDLESS LOVE FINALE! IDOL KICKED OUT FROM THE NATIONAL RANKINGS!

The final episode of Endless Love top billed by GMA's hottest stars Dingdong Dantes and Marian Rivera, only managed to land 2nd over all in AGB's Mega Manila People Ratings. It was beaten the reigning prime time lord "ILUMINA", 16.2% vs 15.1%, with the second part of the much talked about Duel of Romana and Crisanta. Ilumina also stood 6th on Kantar's National survey, leading all Kapuso Programs for the evening with 22.3%, however Endless love only placed 9th National from 2nd in Mega Manila. 

Meanwhile Idol continues to suffer low ratings in Urban Philippines as it only ranked 11th overall in the evening rankings,  but Noah emerged victorious the same day besting Survivor's eviction episode. Here are the figures from AGB Nielsen and Kantar Phils:

Two of ABS-CBN's tv series will bid goodbye this Friday, the Korean comedy drama He's beautiful and the highly budgeted prime time block timer IDOL. He's beautiful, a Korean based series premiered strongly on its pilot week and conquered the afternoon rankings on both AGB's Mega Manila and Kantar's National TV Surveys for the month of September . It consistently lorded the competition on its time slot gaining the highest audience share in the afternoon block among Kapamilya programs. Meanwhile, the much talked about musically inspired evening series, IDOL, also airs its final week with an action packed finale. Originally scheduled to air for 10 weeks, this highly budgeted program was cut short due to scheduling problems and low ratings. AGB MM TV RATINGS: NOAH VS SURVIVOR VS GRAZILDA VS IMORTAL A CLOSE COMBAT!

GMA's Ilumina maintained the lead in the numbers game as it topped the rankings for the entire week in Mega Manila peaking to 15.1% on Thursday with the duel of the two leading characters, the sorcerer sisters Romana and Crisanta. Endless Love also maintained lead against Kristine as it closes its ending on Friday. However it is noteworthy ABS-CBN's NOAH and IMORTAL is giving Survivor and Grazilda a hard time maintaining lead in their time slots. The entrance of Xyriel in Noah has narrowed Survivors lead by less than 0.3%, away from the usual 1% advantage of Survivor the previous weeks. It even tied with Survivor last Wednesday at 13.3% ending 2nd over all in the evening rankings. Imortal is also a big headache to Grazilda as the latter's edge is cut down to 0.4% on average. Imortal even bested Glaiza's series on Wednesday by a margin of 0.2% with 13%, but Grazilda immediately recovered the following day winning by 1% on average people ratings.

Still reigning as a Prime time Royalty, Angel Locsin proves to be one of the country's finest artist  with her most talk about vampire series, IMORTAL! The second saga of the much praised and most awarded series in Philippine television (LOBO) has caught the hearts of Filipinos all over he country. The story behind Lia and Mateo, portrayed by one of the Philippine's  highest valued talents, Angel Locsin and John Loyd Cruz mesmerized the eyes of Filipino viewers. IDOL'S ENDING TO BENEFIT PRIMETIME BIDA! ENDLESS LOVE AIRS FINALE THIS FRIDAY!

ABS-CBN now finds hope to redeem dominance in the evening battle as its weakest link, the musical series, IDOL, is in its last few episodes. IDOL, which premiered a few weeks ago never failed to disappoint Kapamilya Executives with its demising figures that eventually pulled  the overall performance of Primetime Bida down. In a statement released by ABS-CBN, high production cost and scheduling problems are the reasons for the early ending of the said program.
