MANILA, Philippines - Miss Angola's Leila Lopes was crowned Miss Universe for 2011 in the competition held in Sao Paulo, Brazil Monday night (Tuesday morning in Manila). Shamcey Supsup, a 25-year-old beauty from the Philippines, was the third runner-up for the pageant.
Miss Ukraine Olesya Stefanko was the first runner-up, Brazil's Priscila Machado placed 2nd runner-up, Supsup placed third and China's Luo Zilin was 4th runner-up
Tony Award winner Lea Salonga asked Lopes the final question that would help her win the pageant.
She asked Lopes: "If you could change one of your personal characteristics, which one would it be and why?"
Lopes replied: "Thank God, I’m very well satisfied with the way God created me and I would not change a thing. I consider myself a woman with inner beauty. I have my principles. I have acquired many wonderful principles from my family and I plan to follow this through the rest of my life."
Supsup, meanwhile, was one of the strongest contestants in the competition, placing first in the final fan rankings.
In the crucial question and answer portion, she said she would not change her religion just to marry the person she loves.
"If I had to change my religious beliefs, I would not marry the person that I love because the first person that I love is God who created me and I have my faith and my principles and this is what makes me who I am. And if that person loves me, he should love my God too," Supsup said.
Supsup hails from the same town as international boxing icon, Manny Pacquiao.
The Filipina beauty graduated magna cum laude from the University of the Philippines-Diliman with a degree in architecture. She also topped the June 2010 Architecture Licensure Examination in July 2010.

lumalabas na discrimating si Shamcey sa sagot nya, di naman mali pero, un agad ung dating eh.
Born in Benguela, Angola, to immigrant parents originally from Cape Verde during the war. Lopes is a business management student in Great Britain,[2] where she was crowned Miss Angola UK on October 8, 2010, the official representative of the Angolan community in the United Kingdom to the 2011 Miss Angola pageant ............................................................................. nakatira pala sa UK si ms. angola sa UK, tapos ndi sya makapag English?.......................................... hindi ba weird un?
sorry but i don't think it's discriminating. i think that it's her personal choice and knowing that topics re: religion is too complex that when a person boldly expresses his/her views on a personal level is quite admirable.
and i don't agree with the results either, shamcey should win even though her answer is against the principles of others, she never buckled, it was a straightforward and honest answer from a beauty queen who has a strong faith in her God.
