Reading the comments/discussions from our recent articles, tvnetworkwar finds it relevant to give light to the issue about People's ratings as released by survey firm AGB Neilsen.
Contrary to the belief of many, AGB's People Ratings has been used by the survey firm as a measure of TV Viewership as early as the year 2007. As a matter of fact GMA-7 has been including this report from AGB on some of their press releases, however it was not at largely noticed by the public for it provides less meaning to the viewers.
Moreover AGB Nielsen's TV viewing People surveys are not only done in Mega Manila but also in National level as reported by GMA-7 in 2008, but the regular press releases in Pep.ph and some tabloids only gives emphasis to the Mega Manila figures as a tradition. Also AGB Nielsen still conducts its National and Mega Manila Household Ratings.
Moreover AGB Nielsen's TV viewing People surveys are not only done in Mega Manila but also in National level as reported by GMA-7 in 2008, but the regular press releases in Pep.ph and some tabloids only gives emphasis to the Mega Manila figures as a tradition. Also AGB Nielsen still conducts its National and Mega Manila Household Ratings.
In addition People Ratings is not unique in the Philippines for in other first world countries Nielsen Media actually use this measure more as a basis for advertising than the household ratings. In fact in the U.S ratings are based on the number of viewers rather than on the number of household viewing a particular program.
GMA executives even highlighted this issue in one of their interviews pointing out that the very reason for the release of People's ratings is the mere fact that it provides more meaning and value to the advertisers. However in the Philippines the popularity and reliability of People's Ratings has not been stabilized because of its methodological issues.

Mismong si Atty. Gozon na rin ang nagbanggit na ang basehan nila ng popularity ng isang show ay ang rating nito more than its commercial load.
Malaking usapin din ang tungkol sa ratings na inilalabas ng rating firms gaya ng AGB Nielsen Phils. at Taylor Nelson Sofres (TNS). Kapansin-pansin din na ang People Ratings na ng AGB ang ginagawang basehan ngayon ng GMA-7 sa rating ng kanilang mga programa sa Mega Manila, kumpara noon na Household Ratings ang ginagamit nila. Ang Household Ratings ang pinagbabasehan ng ABS-CBN sa inilalabas nilang national ratings ng TNS.
Ipinaliwanag naman ni Mr. Duavit ang pagkakaiba ng People Ratings sa Household Ratings.
"Ang basic distinction lang po nito, when we say Household Ratings, ang tinutukoy nito ay ang porsiyento ng households na nanonood. Pag sinabi nating People Ratings, it is the percentage of total people within the survey area that are watching. Kaya ho naging mas mahalaga na ang People Ratings ang maging basehan o pagbabasehan, it's simply because this is what the trade prefers when it makes advertising or buying decisions," aniya.
Dahil sa magkaibang data ang inilalabas ng AGB at TNS ay marami sa mga manonood ang naguguluhan kung ano nga bang ratings ang mas reliable at credible. Pero ano nga ba ang pagkakaiba ng dalawang rating firms na ito?
Ayon kay Mr. Duavit, "To our knowledge, ibang households ang napaglalagyan ng kanilang mga People Meters [gadgets] within the survey area. As to which one is more reliable, well, I will let the subscriber listing speak for itself. Ibig sabihin, kung titingnan natin ang mga korporasyon or related entities that subscribe to AGB, mas malaki ito kung ihahambing sa nagsu-subscribe sa TNS. But it's not for us to say."
Dagdag naman ni Atty. Gozon, "In practical terms, e, mas maraming People Meter na naka-deploy ang AGB kesa dito sa TNS. In fact, they have recently increased the deployment of meters. Kaya ngayon sa Mega Manila, ang weight that was given to Mega Manila is already 55 percent. It used to be 49-point something percent. And dinagdagan nila ng so many meters..."

Nationwide ratings of AGB Nielsen reveal that the competitor’s lead over GMA in household ratings has dropped from 2.8 rating points in the 4th quarter of 2007 to only 1 point in the 4th quarter of 2008. In terms of people ratings, the 1.3 pt. lead of ABS-CBN in the 4th quarter of 2007 has also been reduced to only 0.4 pt. in the 4th quarter of 2008 with GMA closing the gap in both segments.

this is still an ongoing debate on why METRO CEBU and METRO DAVAO is excluded when these two cities have a large scale of CONSUMERS.

-walang press release ang agb ng national ratings.mega manila pa rin ang regular release nila kasi yun yong basehan at tradition ng agb.so ngayon,supalpal ka na sabi ko sa yo walang national rating ng agb.baka iba na naman ang pagka intindi mo,boba mo kasi.ito yung sagot sa kaka hanap mo sa national rating ng agb,wala!kung pilit mong sabihin na mayroon talaga,punta ka ng agb mg request ka ng release ng national rating ng agb,hindi ito tinatago kasi discretion ng kompanya kung ano e release nila same with kantar bumbay either national or mega manila.kung may dapat itago,ikaw yun kasi tanga ka na bobang boba mo pang magbasa.di ka makaintindi sa wala!

you'll see na ang mga first world countries are using peoplemeter...you will see it in the nielsen site nga rin pala. bakit ngaba peoplemeter ang binalandra nila sa site nila if household ratings ang ginagamit nila sa ibang bansa...mga utak talangka!
