GMA NETWORK TO ELEVATE COMPLAINT ON AIRTIME RULES TO SC!

Broadcast company GMA Network filed a petition for certiorari with a prayer for the issuance of a temporary restraining order and/or a writ of preliminary injunction with the Supreme Court to declare null and void the controversial provisions of the Commission on Elections’ (COMELEC) Resolution No. 9615, and to enjoin the latter from implementing such provisions during the 2013 national and local elections.

This stemmed from the decision of the COMELEC to stand by its new airtime allotment rule despite the Network’s earlier appeal to seek clarification, and pray for the recall and modification of the said resolution, as well as the re-application of the per station airtime limits observed during past elections.

TV5 TO SEEKS NTC'S APPROVAL TO OPEN STATIONS IN 15 PROVINCES!

MANILA - A unit of TV5 operator MediaQuest Holdings Inc plans to build stations, all of which will be in the ultra-high frequency (UHF) range, in 15 provinces.

In a filing with the National Telecommunications Commission, MediaScape Inc is applying for a certificate of public convenience and necessity (CPCN) to install, operate and maintain 10-kilowatt UHF broadcasting stations in the following areas:

- Tabas, Albay;

- Tagbilaran, Bohol;

- Diadi, Nueva Vizcaya;

- Iriga, Camarines Sur;

PARTY PILIPINAS FACES PROBATION FOR 6 MOS, MTRCB

GMA-7’s Sunday noontime musical-variety show Party Pilipinas will be on probation for six months over a “sexually-charged scenes” in a recent episode.

In a statement released on its official Twitter account, the Movie Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) also ordered the program to issue a public apology during its live airing on Sunday, February 10.

GMA NETWORK FILES FORMAL COMPLAINT AGAINST SKY CABLE!

MANILA - The battle between the country's top 2 TV networks is heating up on a different front.

GMA Network on Tuesday said it has filed a complaint before the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) against the cable unit of rival ABS-CBN Corp because of its channel reassignments.

SkyCable has transferred GMA7's flagship free-to-air TV broadcast service, which used to air on Channel 12, to a different channel assignment. Thus, SkyCable subscribers wanting to watch GMA7 would have to flip to Channel 99.
