LISTED BROADCASTER ABS-CBN Corp. is open to partnering with telecommunication companies to distribute its content through other media platforms and generate revenues, a senior company official said yesterday.

  “We are open to partnerships with telcos for content distribution,” Rolando P. Valdueza, the company’s chief financial officer, said in a telephone interview yesterday, when asked to confirm reports the company is in talks with Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) and Globe Telecom, Inc. for such partnership.

ABS-CBN TO ISSUE 1 BILLION PREFERRED SHARES TO FINANCE EXPANSION AND DIGITAL TV SHIFT!

ABS-CBN Corp., the listed media arm of the Lopez Group of Companies, plans to complete a preferred share offering to existing stockholders by December this year.

The issuance will give the broadcast firm additional leeway to raise funds via an equity placement in 2013 to partly pay for a planned expansion into new business lines.

ABS-CBN said in a followup disclosure on Thursday that it expects the Securities and Exchange Commission to approve by November 29 the revisions to its articles of incorporation to reclassify 200 million common shares, with a par value P1 per share, into 1 billion preferred shares, with a par value of P0.20 per share.

ABS-CBN TO RESTRUCTURE CAPITAL TO FUND EXPANSION!

ABS-CBN Corp., the listed media broadcast arm of the Lopez Group of Companies, is restructuring a portion of its capital to pave the way for a fundraising exercise in 2013 to partly finance a two-year expansion plan that will include “new business lines.”

ABS-CBN said in a Philippine Stock Exchange filing on Monday that its board approved the reclassification of 200 million of its unissued common shares with a par value of P1 each into 1 billion voting preferred shares with a par value of P0.20 each.

The preferred stock will also be non-convertible, non-participating, cumulative and redeemable, the disclosure showed. A shareholders’ meeting has been set on November 15 to approve the plan.

GMA NETWORK LOSES P4 BILLION IN MARKET VALUE!

Listed firm, GMA Network, shed roughly P4 billion in Market Value after news on the termination of merger talks with the PLDT Group stunned investors. In just two days, GMA's share price dropped 14% to P8.16 from P9.50 in October 02, reflecting an estimated P4 billion loss in Market Value. GMA's share price ballooned early this year amidst news that PLDT Group will acquire the company for P52 billion, but talks between the two parties went rough on pricing issues. 

GLOBE TELECOM CONFIRMS PLANNED SYNERGIES WITH THE ABS-CBN MEDIA GROUP!

MANILA, Philippines - The CEO of Ayala-led Globe Telecom Inc. admitted that there are ongoing talks with the Lopez Group, which controls the leading media and cable industry players, for business synergies on top of their upcoming partnership on telecommunications.

“We’ve always been talking. I cannot deny that Gabby (Eugenio Lopez III) and I regularly talk. We always talk on what do we partner with, the capabilities, what’s going on," shared Globe president Ernest Cu in an interview with reporters.

PLDT WITHDRAWS BID TO ACQUIRE GMA-7!

MANILA, Philippines - Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT) may no longer acquire a controlling stake in media firm GMA Network Inc. as talks between the groups fall through.

PLDT announced in a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Thursday, October 4, that its unit MediaQuest Holdings Inc.'s discussions for a possible acquisition deal with major shareholders of GMA-7 have ended because they failed to arrive at "mutually accepted terms."
