ABS-CBN on Wednesday issued a statement denying an insinuation by Willie Revillame’s camp that the Kapamilya Network has something to do with the controversy over 6-year-old Janjan's dance-for-cash in TV5's Willing Willie.
In an official statement, Bong Osorio, head of ABS-CBN Corporate Communications, said the allegation “is a general accusation bereft of any details and is obviously meant to divert the issue by dragging ABS-CBN’s name.”
Below is the full statement of ABS-CBN:
"We categorically deny that ABS-CBN has anything to do with the Jan-Jan episode. Records speak for itself. We are not a complainant in this case, and have not made any public statement about it.
Indeed, it is incredible that ABS-CBN, as insinuated by Atty. Leonard De Vera, can possibly have control over the countless groups and individuals who have expressed their indignation over the issue, including Facebook, Twitter, major advertisers, government bodies, the church, academic communities, among others.
It is a general accusation bereft of any details and is obviously meant to divert the issue by dragging ABS-CBN's name."
Various citizens, including performing artists, and government officials have branded Janjan's dance for P10,000 as child abuse.
Revillame has denied the charge, saying he is the only one truly helping the boy and his family by giving them money.
