Media giant GMA Network Inc. widened its Metro Manila ratings lead over ABS-CBN Broadcasting Corp., according to Nielsen TV Audience Measurement survey for August.
The Nielsen survey showed that in the day ratings — 6 a.m. to 12 midnight — GMA registered a 6.7-point lead in audience share with 37.9 percent versus ABS-CBN's 31.2 percent.
GMA Network’s lead in August, compared with its 5.6-point margin in July.
"Mega Manila, an acknowledged bailiwick of GMA since 2003, comprises 55 percent of total urban television households nationwide," Nielsen said in a statement Thursday.
The survey showed that 18 of GMA's shows occupied the list of 30 most-watched television programs in Metro Manila last month.
In urban Luzon, where 77 percent of total television households nationwide are found, GMA Network managed to keep its edge over ABS-CBN. The network registered a 2.5-point lead with 36.6 percent, while ABS CBN registered 34.1 percent. GMA Network’s lead in August was up from the 0.4-point margin in July.
Nielsen noted that 16 of the overall top 30 programs in urban Luzon were from GMA Network.
It said that the network also gained ground in nationwide ratings where ABS-CBN was known as a leader.
Based on the National Urban Television Audience Measurement, GMA reduced ABS-CBN's lead in audience shares to 5.4 points last month from 8.2 points in July.
