GMA Network chairman and CEO Atty. Felipe L. Gozon was among the 21 awardees and the lone Filipino recipient during the fifth Global Leadership Awards in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Thursday.
Gozon was honored for his "keen involvement in spearheading the corporate business and community development, and for the continued effort and contributions done towards steering [the] business to greater heights."
He was selected "by an international panel of judges" organized by "high-profile business magazine" The Leaders International, with the endorsement of The American Leadership Development Association.
"This award is significant to me not only because I did not apply for it, but more importantly, I am told that I am the first Filipino to be given this award," Gozon said.
"My vision for GMA Network is for its program to enrich the lives of all Filipinos everywhere in the world, and for the network to become the number one television [station] in Asia," he added.
Among the other individuals and companies cited in this year's Global Leadership Awards were Honda Motors Japan, International Emirates Business group, and other awardees from India, Malaysia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Indonesia, Bahrain, and the United States.
The awards are exclusively for "C-level professionals," or key organizational leaders "with distinguished activity, exceptional leadership qualities, and prominent achievements" in their respective fields of endeavor.
Also nominated for the awards from the Philippines were ABS-CBN (media), San Miguel Corporation (conglomerate), Petron Philippines (oil and gas), and SM Holdings Group (property development).
