ABS-CBN FORAYS TO ENTERPRISE DATA BUSINESS!

MANILA - The cable unit of ABS-CBN Corp expects to earn P7.5 billion from its enterprise data and networking solution business over the next five years.

In a briefing on Thursday, Jon Arayata, head of Sky Cable’s Skybiz, said the enterprise data market in the Philippines is estimated at about P30 billion, majority of which comes from multinational companies.

"If we able to get at least a quarter of that in the next five years, we are very happy," Arayata said.

At present, Sky Cable has 3,000 corporate subscribers, including small and medium enterprises.

"Every year we are trying to double our numbers. The main business of Sky Cable is still on the consumer side because that is our core competence. But the corporate is another area that we need to focus on to have additional revenues," Arayata said, adding that the company has more than 80,000 broadband subscribers.

Dicky Liwanag, head for corporate sales of Sky Cable, said the company is strengthening its data connectivity in the central business districts (CBDs) of Makati, Ortigas, Eastwood, Rockwell and Alabang where enterprises are located.

"We are starting to grow the BPO and banking segments," Liwanag said.

Skybiz offers a wide array of business broadband solutions through its fiber cable network that provides high-speed internet access 24/7.

Skybiz is positioning itself as a back-up enterprise solution that provides the same level of service as the primary service provider.

For enterprise data solutions, Skybiz has invested in the GEPON (Gigabit Ethernet Passive Optical Network) technology to power its service.

This allows ultra-fast, reliable and simultaneous upload and download performance without compromising internet speed and connectivity at any time.

The Skybiz range of enterprise solutions include the Enterprise Basic plan, which ensures point-to-point transmission between the main and auxiliary data locations; the Enterprise Plus plan, which assures low latency or faster data transfer at any given time; and the VSAT (Very Small Aperture) plan, which allows point-to-point connectivity for remote areas not accessible by regular telecommunications networks.
