ABS-CBN INVESTS HEAVILY ON DIGITAL TERRESTRIAL TELEVISION FOR BETTER BROADCAST QUALITY!

MANILA, Philippines - Media giant ABS-CBN Corp. has been investing heavily in digital terrestrial television (DTT) and cable TV, as it aims to bring clear TV viewing to millions of Filipinos.

Around 80% of households in the Philippines do not have cable TV, and majority belong to DE socioeconomic class, according to ABS-CBN DTV marketing head Miguel Mercado.

Of this number, Mercado noted only less than 52% of households receive only two channels of tolerable quality with the current analog TV transmission.

"People do not get clear reception on TV because of the buildings and billboards that create interference in the signal. They don't have a choice and they think it is because of their old TV sets. Digital terrestrial television will diminish the effect of development in the transmission of content and help the government fulfill its mandate of providing citizens access to information as it enables them to view more channels clearly," he said.

Mercado said in the past 6 years, ABS-CBN has invested heavily on infrastructure and test broadcast activities to ensure a smooth transition to DTT.

DTT, considered as the future of television, offers viewers digital clear picture and sound for all existing channels, and more content as each network can broadcast in more than one channel. DTT is seen to replace the existing analog broadcast transmission system in the country by 2015.

While cable TV provides clear picture and audio quality, Mercado noted only 20% of Filipino households have cable, which is why ABS-CBN is preparing for DTT.

"All the network’s efforts of producing world class programs are for naught if the content cannot be viewed and appreciated in its true value, if it even reaches the people at all. But the main reason we continue to innovate is to give the people a choice, an access to a wealth of information and entertainment that analog transmission simply cannot address very well,” he said.

Apart from cable TV and DTT, ABS-CBN is also credited for other innovations such as being the first network to broadcast in color in 1968 and the first to broadcast a locally-produced program and live event in high-definition in 2009.

ABS-CBN's video-streaming website iWantv! is also said to have ushered in the "Internet TV" era in the Philippines, wherein television content is distributed and consumed online.

ABS-CBN keeps on offering us quality entertainment, that includes movies almost every month...
But wait, there's more...
Just like the the concert of Daniel Padilla and un upcoming concert ni Vice Ganda, sa Araneta yan ha, may bayad.

to compare the three TV networks, GMA7 lang ang naiba... bakit? Kasi both ABS-CBN and TV5 are willing to spend and invest to improve their services... Generally, kapag may sinabi ang executives nila, nag ma-materialize...
Iba nman ang strategy ng GMA7 executives. Ang style nila, they are doing their best to condition and control the minds of the viewing public and the advertisers/investors... In other words, ginagawa nila tayong TANGA (sorry for the word).
If the executives of GMA7 want their network to survive, they should start revising their strategy, that is if it is not yet too late.

What's you basis??? Pls show some proof na flop ang movies and concerts ng ABS-CBN...

Wake up...

Look at the difference, Araneta 9,679 vs. Music Museum 728...

Mga kapuso, mag isip naman kayo...

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

Anonymous said...

In fact, GMA News is almost SILENT on GMA's upcoming upgrade to DTV... And why a singer chose Music Museum as the venue of her birthday concert this month? GMA has apparently NOT ENOUGH MONEY to bring a concert of one of its talents to Smart Araneta Coliseum or Mall of Asia Arena...

isip2x minsan mga kanguso. .

I am a certified Kapamilya, but when i watched Party Pilipinas last Sunday masasabi ko na most of them ay magagaling kumanta... To be honest, i was impressed.

So, this only means that the problem is not with the artists/talents because they have what it takes to be a star...

The problem is the station to which they belong... Hindi sila nabibigyan ng malaking break... In the Showbiz industry, talent/potential and "packaging" are of equal importance...

It is up to the person to develop his/her talent. But when it comes to "packaging", it is up to the network to provide a good and attractive presentation for its talents...

Have you ever wondered why most, if not all, of the products/services being advertised are endorsed by Kapamilya stars...

The main reason is MONEY... (the list is incomplete); QTV, tapos GMA News TV (parehong ch. 11), mga overseas channels ng GMA, at GUMAWA NG MGA FLOP FILMS AT HOLOGRAM E-FAKES! All while giving LITTLE EXPOSURE TO THE PUBLIC most of GMA's talents today!

Only in the Philippines yata yan...

GMA Network was trying to beat ABS-CBN's ANC... This is the primary reason why they established GMA News TV on "free tv".

ANC was established to provide 24/7 News and Current Affairs programs to cable subscribers.

Therefore, ANC is indirectly earning from the cable subscribers through the bills that they pay to various cable providers. The network only relies on the amount of money the advertisers are willing to spend.

Unfortunately, due to the fact that GMA News TV is being broadcasts free of charge, cable providers are only mandated to carry such channel. However, cable providers are not bound to pay GMA Network for the said channel.

This is the reason why GMA Network initiated a survey wherein it was shown that among the news channels of the three major tv networks in the country, (GMA News Tv, Akyon Tv, and ANC), GMA News Tv came on top.

The purpose of the said survey is to entice advertisers to allocate funds for product placements on GMA News Tv.

However, advertisers were not persuaded by the result of the survey.

To be fair, the programs aired over GMA News Tv are informative and educational. But, as a business, it is a bad investment.

Each and every broadcast day, the network is losing money. What they get from advertisements, if any, is not enough to make up with their operating expenses.

It is expected that the network will not admit that they are struggling. But, it only takes logical thinking to figure this out. It is a simple case of "cause and effect"...

GMA Network should do something, quick... Before it's too late.

Sa CNN, pinaliwanag nila kung papano nila ginawa yun, they used many cameras to make that happen, hindi green screen...

FLASH REPORT:

Kanina sa Party Pilipinas live in MOA Arena, sinabi ni Mr. Ogie Alcasid na 2nd to the last episode na daw ng PP ngayon araw na ito...

Ibig sabihin, next Sunday na ang last and final episode ng naturang show...

That PP episode is A LAST-RESORT NUKE AND THE ENTIRE SHOW'S LIFE-OR-DEATH BATTLE!!!

ABS-CBN dedicated its entire programming today to the election coverage and top-rated shows (in short: ALL LOCALLY-PRODUCED CONTENT), while sa GME naman tuloy ngayon ang Afternoon Prime nila...
