MTRCB RELEASES NEW TV RATINGS CLASSIFICATION GUIDE!

The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) is pleased to announce that on 05 October 2011, it will formally launch its revised classification ratings for television programs embodied in Memorandum Circular No. 05-2011. As it is, the revised classification ratings for television program will be as follows: General Patronage (“G”), Parental Guidance (“PG”), Strong Parental Guidance (“SPG”), and Disapproved for airing on Television (“X”).

MC No. 05-2011 was promulgated by the Board on 25 August 2011 after a series public consultations and information campaigns with the different stakeholders in the television industry. In compliance with the legal requirement of publication, it was published in the Philippine Star issue on 09 September 2011 and it will take effect beginning October 2011.

Specifically, on 06 October 2011, there will be a simultaneous broadcast of the prescribed 3D Animation/Motion Graphics of the program advisories of “G” and “PG”. The actual implementation of “SPG”, however, is deferred until further notice from the Board and after a successful information campaign on the significance of the already existing classification ratings.

The salient features of MC 05-2011 are as follows:
Full-screen written and verbal advisory of the program’s classification rating is shown for at least (10) seconds immediately before the opening credits.
Standard 3D Animation/Motion Graphics of the program advisories for uniformity in all television broadcast.
A standard pictogram advisory is superimposed on screen all throughout the airing of the program.
Pictogram advisory is color-coded: Green for “G”, Blue for “PG”, and Red for “SPG”.
These program advisories are designed to empower parents to exercise caution and vigilance with the viewing habits of their children. It is unfortunate, however, these program advisories have been in place for a long time but the public seems oblivious of their true importance and relevance.

The Board is truly grateful with the full cooperation and support of the industry stakeholders. The executives of the different television networks, especially their legal and creative teams, have unselfishly offered their assistance and inputs in the Board’s Committee on TV Classification Rating in crafting and finalizing the revised TV classification ratings. The Board’s Committee is composed of Board Member Gabriella R. Concepcion, as Committee Head, and Board Members Noel R. Del Prado, Eugenio H. Villareal, Milo M. Sogueco, Jose Antonio K. Veloso, and Eric Henry F. Mallonga, as Committee Members.

That awkward moment when E-LIVE is trending on Twitter and yet Startalk TX is celebrating their 16th Anniversary.
