ABS-CBN parent firm, Lopez Holdings Inc., the listed holding firm of the Lopez family, has sought the regulator's nod to apply its P6.75 billion new funds to cover past financial loses so it could start declaring dividends to shareholders. In a disclosure to the stock exchange on Tuesday, Lopez Holdings, said it filed this application at the Securities and Exchange Commission to wipe out its accumulated deficit also totaling P6.75 billion.
Lopez Holdings has significantly trimmed its debt from a high of $560 million in 2002, when it declared a debt standstill, to P3 billion as of end-June this year. The sale of key assets made it possible for the company to significantly reduce its debt.
Lopez Holdings remains confident it would sustain its positive operating performance for the rest of the year given higher contributions from main units FPHC and ABS-CBN Broadkasting Corp.“This tells us that investments made in earlier years by FPHC, and by ABS-CBN for that matter, are now giving us the expected returns,” said Lopez Holdings president Salvador G. Tirona.
As of Dec. 31, 2009, Lopez Holdings held a 57% interest in ABS-CBN and 42% in FPHC. But Telco unit Bayan Telecommunications, however, said its net losses widened by nine percent to P666 million due to foreign exchange losses. Core revenues likewise declined by five percent to P3.02 billion.
ABS-CBN CORP. is expecting double-digit growth in net income for the January to September period due to business from additional subsidiaries, among others, according to an executive. Rolando P. Valdueza, ABS-CBN’s chief financial officer, also told reporters the company would be increasing capital expenditures from P3 billion to fund cable and broadband businesses next year
ABS-CBN is the country’s largest multimedia news and entertainment content provider and controls Sky Cable Corp., the country’s largest cable TV service provider.

karen davila kapamilya parin!
In an interview with “Showbiz News Ngayon” during the World Vision Famine event, Davila admitted she has feelings of loss but she doesn’t have ill feelings when she was replaced in the show.
“I have feelings of loss. Alam niyo naman po na 6 na taon ako sa TV Patrol. Emotional in a grateful way. I want to let everybody know that. I don’t have ill feelings or bitter feelings at all and I mean it ha,” she said.
“Ang gusto ko na lang po is to be able to continue to do work that would be of value to the people and the public we serve. I’m a team player, I’m a good soldier. That’s really what I want you to know,” she said.
Davila and former TV Patrol anchor Julius Babao on Friday bid goodbye to the country’s top prime time news program.
