The country's newest and fastest growing channel, TV5, is creating a big buzz on Philippine Entertainment after it successfully defeated major players iin the ratings game for the weekends. This indicates that Filipino viewers now recognize TV5 as a major channel in the Philippines.
The success of the Kapatid channel is now compared to world's largest social networking site, Facebook, which in the onset was a petty entity compared to the Titan existing social sites, Friendster and Myspace, but grew to be the most popular networking site in the US.
Encouraged by the success of its initial set of new shows, TV5 will launch its first daily series, My Driver Sweet Lover, next Monday, Oct. 25TV5 chose to break with tradition by offering light comedy fare for its first venture. "We trust that we’re in the right direction because we’ve got a great story to tell, and powerhouse cast and crew," Mr. Intalan said.
"TV5 has started winning weekends [in the ratings race]. Now we’re making our weeknight programming more exciting."
Directed by Soxie Topacio and Eric Quizon, My DSL is the story of a charming jeepney driver (Mr. de Vera) and a bratty hotel heiress (Ms. Paner) who initially do not like each other. It has an all-star cast which includes Richard Gomez, Dina Bonnevie, Eddie Gutierrez, Pilita Corrales, Nova Villa, Yayo Aguila, Epi Quizon, Ruby Rodriguez, Arci Muñoz, Ramon Christopher, and Keempee de Leon.
The show will air weeknights at 10:30 p.m.
