SKY CABLE TO DIRECTLY CHALLENGE CIGNAL ON ITS TURF!

Sky Cable will soon offer satellite pay TV.

In a submission to the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC), Sky Cable Corporation said it plans to spend P252 million for the rollout of direct broadcast satellite (DBS) service across 251 cities and municipalities. Also known as "direct-to-home," DBS transmits signals to subscribers using satellite. A unit of ABS-CBN Corporation, Sky Cable’s venture into satellite TV will pit it against three existing players, namely Cignal, Dream Satellite TV and GSat.

Last year, Cignal dislodged Sky Cable as the largest pay TV Provider, ending 2014 with 845,000 subscriber as compared with Sky Cable's 800,000. Sky Cable's foray into DBS is seen to facilitate regional expansion, as DBS service is more popular outside Metro Manila.

Pay TV business is facing increasing pressure in the digital tv age, as more channels in the free-to-air  service makes Pay TV less appealing.

The only reason we hace CIGNAL at home in (Aklan Province) because SKY is not available. Once it's available we will immediately shift.
