SKY CABLE EYES 1 MILLION SUBSCRIBERS AS IT EXPANDS OUTSIDE METRO MANILA!

MANILA – SkyCable Corp., the cable and broadband unit of ABS-CBN Corp., is targeting to reach one million subscribers over the next two years as it expands services outside Metro Manila.

As of January, SkyCable has 800,000 subscribers nationwide, according to ABS-CBN Access head Carlo Katigbak.

“Our goal is to hit a million probably by sometime within the next 24 months,” Katigbak said, noting that this figure includes subscribers of Destiny Cable, which SkyCable acquired in 2012.

Katigbak said around 50 percent of SkyCable subscribers are from outside Metro Manila.

ABS-CBN recently launched its digital television service, TVplus, which is seen as the start of the country’s transition from analog to digital television.

ABS-CBN is targeting to sell a million units of TVplus, also known as the "Mahiwagang Black Box," this year.

Katigbak, meanwhile, believes the new digital service will have no effect on the operations of SkyCable.

“’Yung SkyCable, we really offer more channels, and may kasamang monthly subscription fee ‘yun. ‘Yung TVplus limited to the four extra channels at walang monthly subscription,” he said.

Katigbak said SkyCable currently operates 15 transmitters, which covers around 30 percent of the country’s TV households.
